The launch of Cloud-Domains (http://www.domainregistry.de/cloud-domain.html)is running in different phases. The landrush has opened on January 25th and runs until Feburary 5th, 2016. During this period, brands, businesses and individuals can place their orders for registrations of any available domain. Domains that receive more than one valid request during this phase will be allocated through an auction among all the applicants that requested it.
On February the 16th, 2016, cloud-domain will move out of the launch phase and registration will be open for General Availability.
It is recommended, to pre-register cloud-domains at registrars, in order to secure all chances.
The cloud-domain is an extension open to everybody, and there are no special eligibility requirements to register one.
The new Cloud-Domains will be new, additional networks that the domain owners can use to fish. The relationship between a better ranking in search engines and the Berlin-Domains has already been proven by a Study of Searchmetrics. Websites with Berlin-Domains often rank better in regional Google search queries than websites with .de domains and .com domains. The result of the Searchmetrics study can be summarized as follows:
“In 42% of search queries, .berlin domains have ranked better on a local level.”
Another study by Total Websites in Houston shows that the results of the Searchmetrics study are practically transferable to all new top-level domains, which means also to the new Cloud-Domains. Total Websites states that Google considers the domain extensions of the new Top-level domains as an important criterion for the evaluation of a domain and therefore concludes that:
“It is clear that the new top-level domains improve the ranking in search engines.”
